So bad news first. I took my fried home computer to a local tech shop to figure out what was burned out. Turns out that the motherboard fried from the lightning strike. Better yet the LGA 1366 motherboard was impossible to find and that style of motherboard was obsolete.
So I called Lenovo, the maker of my ThinkStation, and told them what had happened. They asked for my serial number to the computer and then proceeded to ask for a few more details and then immediately told me that they had a new motherboard on it's way to one of their IBM dispatchers in the area and that they would have them replace it and get my computer working by the next day. I had stopped them and asked how much this would cost, they replied: "It's free... part of your upgraded warranty that you purchased when you registered your machine in 2011."
So as of Noon today my lightning zapped computer is back up and running like new. I am elated!
